Biography
Eric Blair was born on 1903, in Motihari, Bengal.
His father worked for the British Colony of India.
Ida, Eric's mother, brought him to England when he was one year old.
When Eric was five, he was sent to a small Anglican parish school in Henley. He was not the first out of his family to attend school there. His sister went to school there as well.
Eric was a very intelligant boy and earned scholarships to both Wellington and Eton colleges.
Blair moved to Eton college after attending Wellington for a term and became a King's Scholar from 1917 to 1921.
After finishing going to school at Eton, Eric joined the Indian Imperial Police in Burma.
He chose a pen name when he started writing. George was for the patron saint of England, and Orwell was for the River Orwell which was one of Blairs
Orwell lived in poverty for many years, moving around from different work and sometimes he was homeless.
George volunteered to fight for the Republicans against Fracno's Nationist during the Spanish Civil War.
By the 1940's, Orwell began writing book reviews for the New English Weekly, and was able to support himself.
He finished writing Animal Farm in 1944, and it was published the next year and had great success.
Orwell married Eileen O'Shaughnessy between 1936 and 1945, and adopted a son which then named Richard Horatio Blair.
Eileen died in 1945 from a surgery.
In 1949, he married again to Sonia Brownell.
George Orwell died in 1950 of tuberculosis.
