Plot Analysis
Old Major, gathers the animals for a meeting in the barn. He tells them about his dream he had where the animals overthrew the humans ans the animals were free and there was no one to control them. After he dies, three pigs names Napoleon, Snowball and Squealer create the philosophy of Animalism. One night the animals attack Mr. Jones and defeat him, taking over the farm for themselves. The animals rename the farm 'Animal Farm'. During the first few weeks of Animal farms new life, everything was great. Snowball was teaching the animals how to read and Napoleon was taking care of young puppies and educating them. Mr. Jones comes back with men to take back over the farm, but he looses again to the animals. Over time, Snowball and Napoleon compete for power. Snowball has an idea to build a windmill, but Napoleon turns it down. Napoleon then makes an unusual noise and nine dogs come and attack Snowball and chase him off the land. Napoleon takes full leadership of the farm and starts making rules right away. From now on, the pigs would the the only ones making the decisions. Napoleon goes along and get the animals to create the windmill, but one night during a brutal storm the windmill is knocked down. He declares that it was Snowball trying to ruin the windmill. Napoleon expands his powers, and says that Snowball is a criminal. The pigs take up human like qualities, like sleeping in beds, living in the house and drinking whiskey. The Seven Commandments forbid this, but Squealer convinces the animals that they are wrong. Napoleon stole a pile of timber to a neighboring farmer, but the farmer pays with fake money, so a battle breaks out. Boxer is hurt, but still continues to work. One day while working, Boxer falls and Napoleon sends for a hospital cart. The animals later discover that Boxer was sold to a glue maker so Napoleon could buy whiskey. Years later, the pigs have become more like humans. The Seven Commandments that were written on the barn wall were cut down to just one, "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal that others".
